Event 1: Scavenger Hunt (this event takes place BEFORE the Pi Day competition!) On Wednesday, March 9th, your team will be emailed the scavenger hunt with a list of places/things for you to find or figure out. You will work together AS A TEAM to complete as many items as possible by Sunday, March 13th at 11:59 p.m. We will then score your submissions prior to the start of the in-person competition. The more items you complete, the more points your team will earn!
Event 2: Digits of Pi Memory Game Pi goes on forever - it's so irrational! How many digits of pi can you memorize? 10?50? 100? Each team will select ONE person to compete in this event. Participants will recite the digits of pi in round-robin fashion. As an example, team 1 says the first digit, then team 2 says the second digit, then team 3 says the third digit, and so on. If your representative says the wrong digit or gives up, your team is eliminated. We'll keep going until there's only one team left standing! The longer your team lasts, the more points your team will earn!
Event 3: Digits of Pi "Word" Search You'll put your seek-and-find skills to the test with this event! You know all those digits of pi you just recited?! We're going to put them into a word search style grid and give you a list of numbers to find. How many 150's can you find in the digits of pi? What about 1871? You'll work together AS A TEAM to find as many of the numbers in the list as possible in 10 minutes. The more you find, the more points your team will earn!
Event 4: Pi Tangram Puzzle Tangrams are fun to play around with and make cute abstract pictures. But, can you arrange those shapes to spell the word "Pi"? For the final event, you will work AS A TEAM - but only one person at a time - to arrange a complete set of tangrams into the letters P and I. The faster your team is to complete the puzzle, the more points your team will earn!
